Matching shirts only work if they fit. Here's how to size everyone from the baby to grandpa — without a single return — using a tape measure and a favorite shirt.

Ordering one shirt is easy. Ordering twelve — for a baby, two toddlers, three teenagers, a few adults and a grandparent who insists they're a medium — is where matching shirts get tricky.
The good news: you only need a tape measure, one shirt that fits well, and ten minutes. Here's how to get every size right.
Most of our matching shirt designs are available in a full family range, so everyone can wear the same design:
| Style | Sizes | Good for |
|---|---|---|
| Adult unisex tee | S – 4XL | Most adults and older teens |
| Women's V-neck tee | S – 2XL | A slimmer, more fitted look |
| Youth tee | S – XL | School-age kids, roughly 6 to 14 |
| Toddler tee | 2T – 5T | Little ones who've outgrown bodysuits |
| Baby bodysuit | 0–6 to 18–24 months | Babies |
Many designs also offer long-sleeve and Comfort Colors styles. Each product shows its exact options when you personalize it, and our size guide lists measurements for every style.
Body measurements are hard to take accurately at home, and people rarely remember them. The easier, more reliable method is to measure a shirt that already fits the way they like:
Tip: ask relatives to measure their favorite shirt and send you the two numbers. It's quicker than a debate about whether they're "really" a large.
Baby bodysuits are sized by age in months, but babies grow at very different rates. Go by weight and length, not age — if your 5-month-old is already wearing 6–9 month clothes, choose the 6–12 month bodysuit. For an event a few months away, size up.
Toddler sizes (2T–5T) run by age too, with the same caveat: a tall three-year-old may already be in a 4T. Check a favorite shirt's chest width against the chart. Toddler shirts that are slightly big are fine; slightly small ones get outgrown before the photo.
Youth sizes cover roughly ages 6 to 14. When in doubt, size up — kids grow quickly, and a youth shirt ordered for a spring event might need to fit through summer. A slightly roomy shirt looks perfectly normal in a family photo.
Many teens are between the largest youth size and the smallest adult size. As a rule of thumb, if a teen wears youth XL comfortably but is still growing, go to adult S. Measure a favorite shirt to be sure.
Our adult unisex tees have a classic, relaxed fit. Two common questions:
Grandparents often prefer a more relaxed or longer shirt. A long-sleeve style is a good option for cooler weather — and for anyone who'd rather cover their arms in photos.
Before you order, make a simple list with one line per person:
Then personalize each shirt from the list. For big groups, our guide to ordering matching shirts for a big group has more tips for collecting everything in one place.
Every shirt is printed to order with a name or design chosen for that person, so we can't accept returns or exchanges for size choices. That's the trade-off for personalization — and the reason ten minutes with a tape measure is worth it. If we ever send the wrong size by mistake, contact us and we'll put it right.
Once your shirts arrive, wash them inside out in cold water and tumble dry low or hang to dry. Hot washes and high heat are the main causes of cotton shrinking. Our care guide has the full routine.
