Nurses work a lot of holidays, and Halloween on a unit has its own traditions: candy at the nurses' station, decorated doors, and a team that shows up in matching shirts. Shirts are the easy way to join in without a costume that gets in the way of patient care.
Here are theme ideas, forty sayings by specialty, and a plan for ordering around twelve-hour shifts.
First, check the dress code
Hospitals and clinics set their own rules for what can be worn on the floor, and infection-control policies come first. Some units allow themed shirts on Halloween; others keep them for the break room or the unit party. Ask your manager before the team orders.
Theme ideas
- Boo Boo Crew: the classic nurse pun, with ghosts in scrubs. Our Boo Boo Crew nurse ghost shirt is the one on this page.
- Spooky nurse: a ghostly nurse for the whole staff, like our spooky nurse ghost shirt.
- Retro: a retro nurse ghost in vintage colors.
- Unit name first: any design with your unit in the text line makes it your team's shirt.

Organizing a unit order
Twelve-hour shifts and rotating schedules make it hard to reach everyone. A little structure helps:
- Pick one design and share the link on the unit's group chat or break-room board.
- Use a shared sheet with name, size, style and the text for each person.
- Let everyone choose their fit. Every design comes as a women's V-neck (S–2XL), an adult unisex tee (S–4XL), a long-sleeve tee (good for cold units) and a Comfort Colors tee.
- Personalize each shirt with a name, credential or role, up to 33 characters.
- Set a deadline in early October and place the order. Each shirt is made within 1–2 business days, then delivery takes 2–6 business days.
After Halloween
Wash inside out in cold water and tumble dry low or hang dry, and the print stays bright for next year's party. Our care guide has the details.
