A family reunion shirt does a lot of jobs at once. It's a uniform that makes the group photo look planned, a name tag for cousins who haven't met, and a keepsake people wear for years after. Get it right and it becomes part of the family history.
Here are design ideas, 30 sayings and a practical plan for organizing shirts across every branch of the family.
Design ideas that work
Family tree and roots
A classic reunion theme for good reason: a tree says we all come from the same place. Designs with roots and branches suit every generation, and the family name fits naturally in the center.
Big, graphic lettering — FAMILY, the surname, the year — reads clearly from across a park and photographs well in a large group. The "family over everything" shirt is a good example.
Location and year
"The Johnson Family Reunion — Lake Travis 2026." Adding where and when turns each year's shirt into a collectible, and families that hold reunions annually often keep a shirt from every year.
Honoring the elders
Many reunions celebrate the grandparents or great-grandparents who started it all. Consider a line that names them — "The Descendants of Robert & Mae" — so every generation knows where they fit.
30 family reunion sayings
Use these as the main line on your shirt, or as inspiration for your own:
Family: where life begins and love never ends
Our roots run deep
Same roots, different branches
Family over everything
Making memories together
One family, many branches
Home is wherever we're all together
The gang's all here
Frequently asked questions
What should be printed on a family reunion shirt?
Most reunion shirts include the family name, the year, and often the location or a short saying. Many families add a family tree design, and some add each person's first name or branch so relatives can tell who's who.
How do you color-code family reunion shirts?
Give each branch of the family — usually the descendants of each sibling in the oldest generation — its own shirt color, all with the same design. It makes photos look planned and helps relatives see instantly who belongs to which branch.
How far in advance should we order reunion shirts?
Start collecting sizes six weeks out and order at least two to three weeks before the reunion. Large families take longer to organize than to print — shirts are usually made within 1–2 business days.

Color-code by branch
Here's a tip that makes reunion photos look professionally planned: give each branch of the family its own shirt color, all with the same design.
Start with the oldest generation — usually a set of siblings or a couple's children.
Assign each of those siblings' households a color: red for Aunt Carol's branch, blue for Uncle James's, green for Grandpa Joe's, and so on.
Everyone in that branch — spouses, kids and grandkids — wears that color.
In the big group photo, the branches line up like a living family tree, and at the event, relatives can see at a glance who belongs to whom. For palettes that work in every size and a sample plan, see our guide to family reunion shirt colors, and for the kids, our cousin crew shirts.
Should you add individual names?
Adding each person's first name to their shirt is optional, but it's genuinely useful at large reunions where cousins, in-laws and new babies meet for the first time. It also makes the shirts personal keepsakes rather than generic event tees.
A compromise that works well: the shared design on the front with the family name, and the individual's name in smaller text.
Sizes for every generation
A reunion includes everyone from newborns to great-grandparents. Most of our reunion designs come in adult unisex S–4XL, women's V-neck, youth, toddler and baby sizes. Ask each household to measure a shirt that fits — our size guide and family sizing tips make it easy.
